What is Swedish Massage?

Swedish Massage is the best-known type of massage in the States. If it's your first time booking a session, Swedish massage is the best kind to start with. Most people get a 50 or 60-minute Swedish but 75 or 90-minutes will give the therapist more time to work the muscle tissue and for you to relax into the experience.
Swedish massages are performed by trained, licensed Massage Therapists. A Swedish massage can be slow and gentle, or vigorous, depending on the client’s goals for the session and what he or she wants to achieve.

What's in a name? Or Why is it called Swedish?

Swedish massage is based on anatomy and physiology and was pioneered by a Swedish physiologist, Henri Per Ling, at the University of Stockholm in 1812. It was introduced to the U.S. in 1858 as "The Swedish Movement Cure." Per Ling developed a system of movements performed by a therapist called "Medical Gymnastics". Today it is simply known as Swedish massage. Now you Know!
